Homemade Yee Sang
I wanted to eat something light and healthy, so I decided to prepare yee sang (鱼生) so called fish salad. My MIL taught me how to prepare the dish, the ingredients are so simple and easy to do. Like to share this recipe with everyone especially those non-Chinese reader who love Chinese foods. There are a lot of version in preparing this dish and mine was very simple as it is not meant for the makan besar. I improvise a little bit where I replaced the salmon with shrimp instead. It was so coincident that i had just made this yee sang few days back before this Chinese New Year, so here are some of the picture I had took. Let's give it a try.
Recipe for homemade yee sang
1 radish, shredded (i use grater)
1 cucumber, shredded
2 carrots, shredded
2-3 red chillies, shredded
Prepare the garnishing
white sesame seed – toasted
also can add peanuts - mine out of stock
prawn cracker - mine out of stock
Raw ingredients (optional, can put jellyfish, smoked salmon)
shrimp, cleaned and seasoned with salt and pepper, lightly pan-fried.
The sauce
plum sauce
honey
1/4 cups of lemon juice
a pinch of salt
a dash of sesame oil
Method
1. Arrange the shredded ingredients on a big, round serving platter.
2. To serve, pour the sauce over the yee sang.
3. Arrange the shrimp on top.
4. Add a sprinkling of sesame seeds and roasted peanuts.
